Bam Thwok: "...Let Me Out" (EP review)

When a band names themselves after a Pixies song, you get a pretty good sense of what to expect.  That's definitely the case with Toronto's Bam Thwok and their new EP ...Let Me Out.

Squealing guitars? Check.
Slow/fast song structures? Check.
Male/female vocals? Check.

On "Jenny's Got A Problem" we even get the screamed vocals that we all got so used to coming from Black Francis.

The track "Fucked Up" stands head-and-shoulders above the rest, in fact, it ranks as one of the best tracks of the year.  It's got the biggest hook, but doesn't sacrifice any of the raw emotion.  Comparisons could be drawn to "Gigantic", without too too much exaggeration.

There is definitely some work to be with production and the songwriting needs to be a bit more sophisticated, but Bam Thwok does more than enough with this EP to make me curious about what's to come.

Best track: "Fucked Up"

Track listing for ...Let Me Out:
