Polaris 2013 short list announced: it is terrible

Well the short list for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize was unveiled today.  Judging from the number of METZ shirts I saw at  TURF last week, it should come as no surprise that they made the list.

A couple of the nominations are obviously just to draw media attention, because anyone with a pair of ears knows that the Metric and Tegan & Sara records of fucking atrocious.

Here's the complete list of nominees:

  • Godspeed You! Black Emperor Album: ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!
  • Zaki Ibrahim Every Opposite
  • Metric Synthetica
  • Purity Ring- Shrines
  • Colin Stetson New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light
  • Tegan and Sara Heartthrob
  • A Tribe Called Red Nation II Nation
  • Whitehorse The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss
  • Young Galaxy Ultramarine
With those options I'm going to have to pick Purity Ring or Whitehorse as the winners.

This may be the WORST short list in the history of the prize.  Judges should all be ashamed.
