Best of 2012: odds and sods

Every year when coming up with my year end best lists there are things that don't really fit into any category. Greatest hits, live albums, box set, remixes all get lumped together and put onto this catch-all.

So here are the most notable releases in those categories this year:

Smashing Pumpkins- Pisces Iscariot and Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness box sets
Billy Corgan and company delivered a boat-load of excellent bonus material on both of these compilations.

Rage Against The Machine- Rage Against The Machine XX
RATM strikes hard with a 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut.

Grinderman- Grinderman 2RMX
Nick Cave's non-Bad Seed project keeps the remixes surprisingly fresh and hard-hitting.

Reverend Horton Heat- 25 To Life
Psychobilly's best try to translate their incredible live performance onto disc.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis- Lawless OST
Cave and Ellis continue their strong work with soundtracks to gritty period pieces.

The Darcys- Aja
Toronto shoegaze-ish rockers deliver a front-to-back cover of Steely Dan's '70s atrocity.

Change Of Heart- There You Go 1982-1997
A career-spanning retrospective of one of Toronto's most influential indie bands.
