Feist wins Polaris Prize?

In a surprising move, last night Feist won the 2012 Polaris Prize for her album Metals.

I say surprising because the album was, well, just not that good.  In fact, it was one of the biggest disappointments of the year.

To be honest, it seems like a compromise pick.  It's like Joe Clark (look it up), he was nobodies first pick, but someone enough people felt okay about to give him the nod.

This is the second year in a row when the prize has been given out to an already huge artist, which goes against the indie image that it tries to project.  It makes me wonder if additional restrictions need to be placed on who can qualify, perhaps once you've sold a certain number of records you're eliminated from consideration.  Just throwing that out there.

All this said, I genuinely like Feist.  So congratulations to her.  I only wish she won this two albums ago.
