Thought Beneath Film: "Detours" (EP review)

It seems like most band's out of Hamilton, ON tend towards the rootsy. That's not the case with the quintet Thought Beneath Film, a pop punk outfit who released an EP Detours.

After you hear the slick bubble punk of "If I Could Fix You (You Know That I would), you won't be surprised to hear that Tom Lord-Alge (Weezer, Blink-182) engineered the EP.

"Hearts On Overdrive" seems precisely designed to garner commercial alternative rock radio airplay.

It's not a total bust.  There's a cute youthful exuberance to "Maybe I'm a Chump".  The big winner is the solid Against Me!-style power popper "Sixty-Six".

I'm sure Thought Beneath Film have an audience, it's just not me.

Thought Beneath Film play the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on August 21st.

Best track: "Sixty-Six"

Track listing for Detours:
  • If I Could Fix You (You Know That I Would)
  • False Skin
  • Maybe I'm a Chump
  • Hearts On Overdrive
  • Sixty-Six
4.0/10
