CASBY Award nominees announced

Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge have announced the nominees for their 2012 CASBY Awards.  The winners will be announced at the annual awards show at the Sound Academy on September 27th.

The list of nominees has been revealed, and it's not as heavy on atonal hard rock as one would expect.

Here are the key categories:


Favorite New Artist

• Monster Truck
• Yukon Blonde
• The Pack A.D.
• Japandroids
• Young Empires

'New' is obviously a subjective term, in this case meaning new to the radio station.

Favorite New Album

• The Arkells, Michigan Left
• Our Lady Peace, Curve
• Metric, Synthetica
• Big Wreck, Albatross
• Young Empires, Wake All My Youth

Big Wreck and Our Lady Peace?  Apparently it's 1997 again.

Favorite New Indie Release

• Metric, Synthetica
• Monster Truck, The Brown EP
• The Pack A.D., Unpersons
• Yukon Blonde, Tiger Talk
• Japandroids, Celebration Rock

Not much to complain about here.
