Simian Mobile Disco: "Temporary Pleasure" album review

UK electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco are back with their highly anticipated second full length album, Temporary Pleasure.

The album begins with hope. The highly textured "Cream Dream" gently eases the listener into the electronic fray. Yeasayer's Chris Keating is the first of many guests to appear, in this case on the mesmerizing and catchy "Audacity Of Huge".

Temporary Pleasure may be an all too prophetic name. By the time the third track, the computerized instrumental "10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong", rolls around the album has lost it's momentum. Simian Mobile Disco follow it with a tepid disco attempt "Cruel Intentions", featuring The Gossip's Beth Ditto. The trance of "Off The Map" and the uber repetitive "Synthesise" and "Badblood" do little to stop the aural hemorrhage.

A hip hop-infused "Turn Up The Dial" is a decent effort. Unfortunately "Ambulance" brings the proceeding back down, sounding like little more than a '90s Crystal Method drone.

Unless you have a tremendous hankering for mind-numbing techno, give this one a pass.
