Little Foot Long Foot is the Toronto indie rock duo of Joan Smith and Isaac Klein. This week the pair released their debut full length album Harsh Words.
The album is a collection of blues-influenced garage rock, played with an energy and intensity that the White Stripes have not been able to achieve for years. Songs like "Stripper Song" and "Fake Cowboy" are raw and gritty.
The locomotive stomp of "Isolation Blues" as well as the twangy "Market Survey" show that country musicians get the blues too. Those songs have a sinister edges that would make Johnny Cash smile.
Smith's vocals are powerful and raspy. It's clear from the lyrics and her delivery that she takes no shit from anyone. Her powerful lungs get a workout too. She literally booms on "June Bug".
The standout track is the opener "King Hipster". It really sums up everything you ever wanted to say to that dude at the concert who tries to act too cool to be there.
In Harsh Words Little Foot Long Foot have created a bluesy rock album that stacks up well next to the best on offer from The Black Keys or Heartless Bastards.
