One of The Supersuckers' latest digital download is the original demos they recorded as The Black Supersuckers for Sub Pop Records. The tracks were recorded by Jack Endino in 1989 and feature the band's original singer Eric Martin on vocals.
Many of the songs are quite different from the band we've come to know and platonically love today. Tracks like "Dance On It" are sludgy affairs that make Mudhoney sound polished.
We do get some glimpses of the future sounds. "Blow You Away" rocks hard and may be the closest thing to the present day Supersucker sound. "Wake Me When It's Over" and "Girl I Know (Acoustic Version)" prove the guys have always love country.
Of course, "Mudhead" would resurface a few years later on the La Mano Cornuda album.
Maybe the band should begin each show now with the theme song "Black Supersucker Rock".
The Supersuckers play Lee's Palace in Toronto on March 13th as part of Canadian Music Week.
Best tracks: "Girl I Know", "Blow You Away"
