After lengthy careers playing with a veritable who's who of country music, the couple have a lot of favours to call in. And boy do they ever. The album features guest appearances be the like of Robert Plant, Patty Griffin, and the legendary Emmylou Harris.
Most of the tracks are good, down home country music. Twang and drawl dominate the record, and in this instance that's a fabulous thing.
Those musical elements work hand in hand with tender lyrics to create soulful tales of relationships, such as the stellar "Gasoline & Matches", a song which reminds me of Paul Westerberg's "Eyes Like Sparks" in both imagery and sound.
Occasionally there's a step out of the comfort zone, such as on the jazzy "A Long, Long Time", however it's not long before we return to the dusty American roots.
If you think Uncle Tupelo was superior country to Wilco, then you'll dig the Millers.
