Victorian Halls are a Chicago indie quartet set to release their latest self-titled EP.
The band tries their damnedest to defy pigeonholing. Blistering guitars and a smashing rhythm section combine to create a post-hardcore assault on the senses. Yelping above the din are vocals that can only be rivaled by Jaguar Love.
It's not all whirlwind white noise with Victorian Halls however. There is a methodical side. "Neon Skies Light Up My Nerves" infuses a ska-like backbeat to (booty) shake things up, while a delicate piano element smolders underneath "It's Not a Fad, It's Etiquette".
The result is pop music that sounds like it was made by set a raccoon ablaze and putting it out with a shovel...but in a sophisticated way.
I'm looking forward to hearing a full length from the band.
Victorian Halls will be holding a CD release party on Jan. 24th at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago. Local acts Tonight the Prom, Snowswera, and The New Diet play as well. Everyone in attendance will receive a free copy of the EP.
Best track: "I'm Gonna Eat Your Brains and Gain Your Knowledge"
