Best of 2008: New Artists

More lists!  Damn I love year-end time.

Today it's best new acts.  That means that I was unaware of them until some time in 2008.  So please don't email me to say "so and so ha
s been around for 3 years, they aren't new".  If they're new to me they qualify.

Best New Acts:

10. The Boxing Lesson
This Austin band is helping to bring good shoegazer back to these shores.  Review

9. Computer Vs. Banjo
A great musical hybrid that surprisingly never gets irritating.  Review

8. mrandmrsmays
An Austin husband and wife duo that blend Jon Spencer with Polly Harvey.  Review

7. Jukebox The Ghost
Some of the catchiest, hook-filled indie rock of the year.  Review

6. Fleet Foxes
One of the most sonically lovely debuts I've ever heard.  Review

5. Career Club
Husker Du fans rejoice!  Review

4. The Bridges
This family writes songs so full of sugary goodness your teeth will rot just listening to it.  Review

3. She & Him
M. Ward's not new to anybody, but the real surprise here is just how good Zooey Deschanel's singing and songwriting is.  Review

2. Lykke Li
The Swedish pixie redefines irresistible.  Review

1. Ra Ra Riot
Like Arcade Fire, only much much better.  Review
