The Supersuckers: Get It Together- Album Review

Well the guys have finally gotten it together and it's here. The Greatest Rock N' Roll Band In The World, The Supersuckers, released their new studio album Get It Together today.

The twelve track album gives us a little taste of each side of the band's unique blend of classic rock, punk, and country.

The record kicks off with a classic Supersuckers riff on "What It Takes" and keeps pumping hard for most of the album. "Anything" is the album's gritty road trip song. While "Listen Up" provides us with a chorus you can sing along to on the very first listen.

The band gets punk rock on the turbo-charged "I Like It All" and the Ramones-esque "I'm a Fucking Genius".

A couple of other traditional Supersucker song themes are included as well. "When I Go, I'm Gone" is Get It Together's kiss off anthem, while "Something Good For You" is the stinging critique of the cookie-cutter music industry (a la "Rock n' Roll Records").

I was initially disappointed that "Paid" and "Breakin' Honey's Heart" were included on the album. Both are concert favorites, but both were also released on 2006's Paid EP. However the versions included are re-recordings, and the chain gang vocals at the end of "Paid" really make it worthy of inclusion.

The highlight of the album has got to be the insanely catchy country rock track "Leaving (Fucked Version)". The song seems destined to be a fan favorite at the Supersuckers' awe-inspiring live shows.

Get It Together is not the best album in the Supersuckers catalogue (quite frankly that's a whole ton to live up to), but it is yet another reminder that they are not only the greatest rock n' roll, country, and punk band in the world, but probably the most entertaining band on the planet...period.
