Ben Folds: Way To Normal- Album Review

In many ways Way To Normal is a return to form for alt-piano man Ben Folds.  Being brutally honest, other than the odd song here and there Ben Folds has been pretty damn boring.

Way To Normal fixes that problem.  Folds veers away from the bad lounge singer act and moves back to a rockin' piano plunker.  Songs like "Brainwascht" and "Dr. Yang" bring back the glory days of Whatever and Ever Amen.

One of the highlights of the album is "Bitch Went Nuts" which can be seen as a not quite as catchy kindred spirit to "Song for the Dumped".

Yes, there are some dull tracks like "Cologne" and "Kyle From Conneticut", but you can't hope for a miracle all in one leap now can you?

Regina Spektor joins Folds for guest vocals on the otherwise unexceptional track "You Don't Know Me".

Overall, Way To Normal is Folds' most consistent and entertaining album in years.  It's more peppy and catchy than any record he's done in the 21st century.

Best tracks: "Hiroshima (B B B Benny Hits His Head)", "Brainwascht"
