Val Emmich: Little Daggers- Album Review

Little Daggers is the forthcoming studio album (to be released Sept. 23rd) from musician/actor Val Emmich.

The New Jersey-born musician has recorded a fantastic collection of bright pop rock songs.  It's the kind of music you would expect if Josh Ritter had a pop bent in place of his folk one.  It's that good.

Emmich's songs are inviting from the first note.  The "do do do"s and whistles and little accents really help set this album apart from those of his contemporaries.  Rather than go into all of the pretentions of indie rock, Emmich chooses to keep the songs and arrangements simple.  That means the songs stand out on their own merits, namely they are damn catchy, instead of the usual indie music cliches we get bombarded with.

Songs like "The Lucky Ones", "Get On With It" and "Hurt More Later" will having you doing a seat dance, while "Darling Denise" is the perfect anthem for anyone lucky enough to be dating a Denise.  "Got a Habit Now" shows that Emmich does have depth and it's not all sunshine and lollipops.

A multitude of guests sit in with Emmich on the album, including Rilo Kiley's Blake Sennett.

Little Daggers seems destined to become a favorite among indie fans.

You can also catch Emmich on the upcoming season of Ugly Betty.
