Princeton are a Los Angeles based indie trio. The band has released a few EPs and toured extensively in support of the likes of Vampire Weekend and Joan As Police Woman. Bloomsbury is the latest 4-song EP from the band. With its understated vocals, literate songs, and World music influenced percussion it's very difficult to avoid drawing the comparison to Vampire Weekend.
I know that I run the risk of having my indie card pulled for saying this, but I don't like Vampire Weekend. It's probably because, while they are a fine little band, the hype the blogosphere has generated for them really is unwarranted when contrasted with their music.
That said, I find over the course of four songs, that Princeton doesn't wear out their welcome with me the way Vampire Weekend does.
It may be the inclusion of strings and woodwinds that help fill out the band's sound, or it may be that the whimsy in their songs feels more natural, or somehow less "indie for the sake of being indie", but I am intrigued by these tracks.
It makes me wonder how the band would fair over the full length of an album.

I'll be buying the new Michael Franti album tomorrow if I remember and hmv has it. I can lend it to you if you want to review it or just give a list. I can also give you Avenue TO back and have placed your order for an October Metropass.
