Random List: Best bands with religious names

There are a plethora of bands out there that use religious imagery in their music. For this random list I was inspired by the number that have some sort of religious connection in their name.

So this is my list of best bands with a religious element in their name. This is organized by the quality of the band and the music they produce, not the quality of the name.

10. The Evangelicals
Relatively new on the scene, The Evangelicals are a indie folk band who are just beginning to generate some buzz for themselves. Keep an eye on them.

Much like The Evangelicals, The Muslims are beginning to get the internet hype. And their power pop may just warrant the hype.

8. The Jesus Lizard
Famous for the insanse onstage antics and yelping delivery of frontman David Yow, The Jesus Lizard had a tremendous hardcore rock following.

7. Silver Jews
Dave Berman's slacker rock band, Silver Jews have built a tidy little career for themselves.

6. The Cult
Straightforward hard rock with classic tunes like "She Sells Sanctuary", "Rain", and my personal favorite "Firewoman".

5. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Sleazy, sexual industrial dance veterans are always and enjoyable listen...unless you are worried about your virgin ears.

4. Ministry
Al Jourgenson is the biggest icon in industrial music. The band has finally called it quits, but songs like "N.W.O.", "Jesus Built My Hotrod", and "Everyday Is Halloween" will endure.

3. Black Sabbath
These guys invented the devil horns. With or without Ozzy, they really are the godfathers of metal. "Paranoid", "Iron Man", "War Pigs", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"...the list is endless.

2. The Jesus and Mary Chain
The brothers Reid were years ahead of the Gallaghers in terms of sibling rivalry. Not to mention the wall of guitar feedback which sounds stellar to this day.

1. Bad Religion
Approaching 30 years as a band and still no punk rock act can touch these guys. For smart, literate, energetic, and most importantly catchy music, you can't do any better than Bad Religion.
