Often it's not the most anticipated or hyped albums that make you stand up and pay attention. That's certainly the case with Jaguar Love's Take Me To The Sea.Jaguar Love is a trio made from the ashes of indie rock bands Blood Brothers and Pretty Girls Make Graves. Take Me To The Sea is their first record.
And this record booms!
Jaguar Love is an appropriate name for the band because the songs often sound like two large jungle cats in the throes of passion. Singer Johnny Whitney's unnaturally high pitched yelping raises the bar on already frenetic tracks.
Thick basslines, deft keyboard work, and guitars verging on hardcore, fill out the band's big bold sound. The listener can't help but feel swarmed by the barrage of melodic white noise. The best course of action is to submit to it and allow the carnal power to pick you up and carry you away.
Even sprawling "ballads" like "Georgia" break down into intense and energetic pieces.
If you are someone who still laments the loss of At The Drive-In, you will love the sound and feel of Jaguar Love.
