At first blush Computer vs. Banjo seems like a ridiculous concept. A Nashville duo that fuses traditional country elements with new fan-dangled technology. But ya' know what? The unusual marriage works.
Folktronica is the label that's been given the pair of Johnny Mann and Beau Stapleton.
CVB (which always makes me think of Camper Van Beethoven), base their songs on country themes and imagery. They have the traditional twangy guitar and vocals, and run those through the computer, enhancing and distorting them. Behind that are artificial drum beats.
The end result is a sound one would imagine from a rootsy Postal Service.
The songs themselves are catchy and get moreso with each repeated listen. Standout tracks like "Guitars Need a Sinner's Touch" and "Magazine Queen" will have you coming back time and again.
